News of the temples: Temple announced for Vancouver, B.C.
June 10, 2006
A new temple will be built in Vancouver, British Columbia, the First Presidency announced in a letter to priesthood leaders May 25.
An architect's rendering of the Curitiba Brazil Temple, announced by the First Presidency on Aug. 23, 2002, has been distributed in the temple district. Ground was broken for the new temple March 10, 2005, by Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve.
The new temple will be Canada's seventh and the first in British Columbia.
The letter from the First Presidency, stated that "this will be a blessing to the many faithful saints in this and surrounding areas who have had to travel long distances to enjoy the blessings of the temple." Stakes in the temple district will be announced later.
"Members who desire to contribute financially toward the construction of the temple may be invited to do so as their circumstances permit," the letter states. Members who would like to donate should simply indicate "temple" on the "other" line of the donation receipt.
"We commend the saints for their devotion and faithfulness and are thankful for the blessings that will come to them through the construction of this new temple."
The Church has 122 operating temples, with another 10, including Vancouver, announced or under construction.
