Sent on behalf of the Toronto Foundation:
Dear Friends:
Over a year ago I was asked by the Church to organize and spearhead an effort to obtain government recognition for the Church in Slovakia. This past September, we implemented a bold effort involving over 100 current missionaries, local members, and returned missionaries from the Czech Prague Mission to gather the signatures of 20,000 Slovakian citizens supporting the registration of the Church.
As you are probably aware, the kind-hearted people of Slovakia rallied to our cause in the spirit of Christian solidarity, and that effort was successful. And on October 18, 2006, I accompanied Elder David Bednar of the Quorum to the Twelve Apostles to a meeting with high-level Slovakian government officials where the announcement granting recognition to the Church was made. Earlier that day, we met with the U.S. Ambassador serving in Slovakia. I mention this, because in both of those meetings, the contribution of the Toronto Foundation was expressly acknowledged and commended for the singular part it played in the success of this project.
The Toronto Foundation provided not only significant administrative and logistical support, coordinating literally hundreds of hours of volunteer service by dozens of volunteers, including nearly 30 returned missionary volunteers who traveled to Slovakia to assist in the effort, but it also provided over $15,000.00 in financial support that paid for such things as travel, lodging, and other expenses for missionaries, local members, and other project volunteers. In one instance, there were a number of college-age young adult Church members from the Czech Republic who learned about the registration effort at a Church-sponsored activity and wanted to travel to Slovakia together to assist in this historic project. Most were holding down summer jobs in order to save money for the upcoming school year. The Toronto Foundation, however, was able to step in and provide them temporary work supporting the effort in Slovakia.
As the Executive Director of the Slovakia Registration Project, I would like to express my sincerest thanks to those of you who have supported the Toronto Foundation over the years. I do not hesitate to say that the support of the Toronto Foundation contributed significantly to the outcome of that effort in partnership with the Church Legal Department, the Area Presidency, and the Czech Prague Mission.
In addition to the acknowledgement of Elder Bednar, the Toronto Foundation was also specifically highlighted as a trusted and positive example by several other members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the Europe Central Area Presidency, and several current and former mission presidents, all who specifically expressed thanks for the Foundation’s support of the project in Slovakia.
In the end, however, the Toronto Foundation is nothing more or less than you, its loyal supporters. Please consider making a generous contribution to this wonderful organization that, in so many ways, is truly building meaningful bridges to the Czech and Slovak people.
Sincerely,
Jonathon T. Tichy

In partnership with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Toronto Foundation hosted a visit to Salt Lake City, Utah, and Church headquarters by Mr. Tomas Kadlec, Head of the Visa Section at the Czech Consulate in Los Angeles, California, on July 12, 2007. Mr. Kadlec and his staff are directly responsible for processing the visa applications of all LDS missionaries assigned to serve in the Czech Republic. During his visit to Salt Lake, Mr. Kadlec met with LDS Church officials and General Authorities, members of the Toronto Foundation Board of Directors, and toured the Temple Square and Welfare Square. Members of the Toronto Foundation were invited to a private luncheon with Church leaders to honor Mr. Kadlec held in the General Authorities’ “Ambassador Suite.” By all accounts, Mr. Kadlec’s visit was a success and will help the Church continue to successfully obtain visas for missionaries called to the Czech Republic.
The Toronto Foundation is a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah that supports grassroots humanitarian and educational projects in the former Czechoslovakia. Established in March of 2003 by a group of returned missionaries, the Toronto Foundation has funded and sponsored numerous projects in the Czech and Slovak Republics in large part due to the generous tax-deductible contributions of its friends and supporters. Dobry den! Great news-- The Rezacovi, Tichonovi, and Vitovi from Brno are coming for General Conference through The Always Remember Foundation! This foundation was recently organized to provide an additional way for RMs, friends, and family to continue to bless the lives of those they served in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
We are currently working on this General Conference project and would love your involvement and support. It will be ongoing and will give an opportunity to a few Czech or Slovak couples every six months to attend General Conference in the Conference Center, go on temple trips, and visit area attractions. We're excited for those coming to have strengthening experiences and to gain a broader vision for the Church's possibilities in their own countries.
Arrangements for housing and food are taken care of, but we are currently raising funds for these couples' airfare. For more information on how to be involved with this project, please visit www.alwaysrememberfoundation.org.
Diky moc!

Does anyone know what happened to Anna, the poor woman who lived on the outskirts of Hradec Kralove? If you met her, you'd know who I'm talking about. She was very poor, 86 years old (in 1997) and covered from head to toe in coal soot. Anyway, when I was there, I got her information so that I could do her temple work. The last I heard, she had fallen, hurt herself, was brought to the hospital, and from there she was sent to an old age home and was happy. I understand that the sisters lost contact with her because she wasn't family, and so no one would pass on information to them. I am hoping that is not true. If you know what happened to her, or if you have any more information about her (ie. birthdate, place, death date, place, parent's names, etc.) please let me know. Anna probably influenced me more than any one else on my mission, and I would really love to do her temple work for her if the time has come.

I will be part of a group of 6 that will be visiting Prague May 24-26. May 25 we would like to take an excursion to Karlovy Vary. Does anyone have a recommendation about a tour agency or someone who might be willing to provide transportation and spend the day with us. We are not asking for "freebies" but would be more than willing to pay for the service. Any leads you might be able to provide would be appreciated.

I'm going into the MTC in March and was just wondering if any of the sisters brought a pair of warm boots with them and if they did was it beneficial? I bought a pair, but just wondering what those who are out there think....
Thanks,

As of this week there are two missionaries serving in Kosice!! There is one active member who lives in Presov and has been travelling to Zilina for meetings. Other than that I don't know specifically how many people will attend the church meetings there. With official recognition of the Church in Slovakia, it is finally time for the gospel to be spread by missionaries throughout the country and not only along its Czech border. I'm sure I wasn't the only missionary who dreamed of opening Kosice for missionary work.
From what I've heard (drby), depending how the work progresses in Kosice, other cities and areas could also welcome missionaries in the near future. It's a very exciting time for missionary work in Slovakia. Keep praying for your Slovak friends and the missionaries who are serving them!

In the MTC will I get an English and Czech Preach my Gospel or just the Czech one. I wasn't going to bring mine, but if I only get a Czech one then I think I might.
Also should I order Czech scriptures now or will I get them there? Bible and BoM?
And can anyone suggest a good "learn Czech" book? Do they give you those materials there or should I bring some with me?
I'm sorry for my ignorance! But I appreciate all the help!
Much love to you all!
Kristy
