Presidents: Harold Schreiber (1979 - 1982) | Richard K. Klein (1982 - 1985) | Served: 2001 - 2003 | Areas Served: Stadthagen, Kiel, Hamburg | Companions: Russ Alston | Steven Childs | Jesse Fisher | Markus Gappmaier | Walt Sowers | Curtis L. Tyrrell | Your Occupation: Aerospace Engineer | Spouse: Kim | Comments: Russ Alston and I entered the MTC as close friends from the same Las Vegas ward just 1 month apart in late 1981. Unfortunately – my opinion, we never served as companions. Since the GHM, I eventually graduated in Math and Computer Science with a hand full of diverse minors, and have since served as a Defense Simulation Training engineer the last 15 years – currently for Boeing in St. Louis. My job has taken me to East Asia and Europe including several trips to southern Germany where I took the opportunity to practice the language.
My wife, Kim Butcher of Sandy, Utah, graduated in European History and English Literature, and currently serves as a K-12 substitute teacher as the hours are very flexible. Our 20th anniversary was last December (2004). Our son Zak, 15, is a gnat’s whisker from earning his Eagle – he probably won’t be driving until he does. Katelin, 13, runs her own business, and recently endured an emergency appendectomy. Both are extremely motivated to serve full time missions, and have the joy of Early Morning Seminary unlike their Utah cousins.
In our ward, I’m in the Sunday School presidency, Kim’s the Achievement Days leader, and the children have served in their presidencies.
There are a number of GHM companions I miss and wonder how they’re doing. If you’d like to, please drop me a line through this site or at Chris.Schmutz@Boeing.com
