Adding Pictures - Detailed Instructions |
[ Page Admin ] |
Mission.net imposes a limit of 150 KB per picture upload.
The 150 KB limit is to avoid filling up our limited
disk space on the few servers we maintain. Normally,
photographs on the Web need to be well under 150 KB in
size so that people who have slow modem connections
(as do many of our alumni outside the U.S.) can see
the pictures in a reasonable amount of time.
Fortunately, there is an easy way to reduce the sizes of
your images so that they can quickly display over slow
connections, yet still maintain viewable quality. If
your images are currently under 500 KB each, here are
the steps to follow (if bigger, skip these steps and
keep reading):
- Go to MyImager.com
- Choose the image from your computer by clicking
Browse..., then click Upload when you have it
selected. Depending on the size of your image and
connection speed, this might take a few seconds.
- Click the Edit dropdown and choose Resize.
Click Yes to Maintain the Original Aspect Ratio.
Then, set the image dimensions at 500 for the width or
the height (depending on which side of the picture is
the longest). Now click Submit.
- Now that the picture is resized, choose Optimize >
JPG: Quality and type 50 as the value for the quality.
When you click Submit and the page refreshes, it will show you an
optimized, smaller image (usually around 30-50 KB for
an image that was originally 300 KB-500 KB in size).
- To save a copy of the new image to your hard drive
so you can upload it to mission.net, just right click
the optimized image in your browser and choose Save
picture as....
If you require optimization of larger images, send me a note about it and I'll give you an email address where you can send me your pictures.
