Elder Richard Mann Passes Away 10 Mar 2007
I did not know Elder Mann, although I heard of him from others. My daughter helped care for him in the last few days of his life.

Richard ("Rick") Mann (Cole)

12/12/50 - 2/18/07 Richard Arthur Huycke Cole, formerly Richard Arthur Huycke Mann, died at age of 56 on Monday, February 19 in Provo, Utah. Rick came to Beaumont at the age of 9 1/2 and was a graduate of Forest Park High School. Following a year at a Junior College in Kennewick, Washington he did a 4 1/2 year stint in the Air Force Reserve and was given a honorable discharge on November 23, 1976. He then learned to speak Norwegian and did a two year mission in Norway with The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. On completion of his mission he attended Brigham Young University in Provo. Utah and received a BS in Computer Science in 1989. He worked as a consultant on the Unix Operating Systems for numerous Hi Tech companies in the Portland, Oregon area for 9 years until the chronic progressive illness of schizophrenia took over his life. He was struck by a car while crossing the street and remained in a deep coma for 12 days before medical interventions were removed and he was allowed to die a natural death. Rick loved math and numbers and he loved all sports whether actively participating in basketball and tennis or cheering for his favorite team. He was very fond of his siblings and nieces and nephews. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Cole Mann, sisters Teresa McDonald, Shelley Shelor, Leslie Powell, Tracy Erickson, brother Jay Mann, and niece Stephanie McNeal, all of whom surrounded him as he passed peacefully from this life into the next. He is also survived by cousins Julia Cole Georgette Cole, nieces Naomi Breen, Laraine Cole and Julie Worley and nephews Sam and Joe Worley, Arthur Cole, Bill and Michael McDonald, and Uncle Leland & Aunt Alta Cole. Richard will be buried in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon near his grandparents, Inga and Arthur Cole. Contributions may be made to Harvard Brain Research, McLean Hospital, 115 Mill Street, Belmont, MA 12478.
