| From 1966-1968 I lived in 14 different hybels (30 month missions back then). Only two had bathing/showering facilities. The missionaries hit the bath house which meant carrying a change of clothes all day long three days a week. "Men's day" fell on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The big bath house in Oslo charged 1 krone for the bath and a towel. The bath house in Fredrikstad charged half that. The entire experience often took 60-90 minutes including time in the sauna reading Dagbladet. The highlight was jumping in the cold pool after sitting in the 120 degree sauna. In Fredrikstad the cold pool had piped in water from the Olso Fjord! |
