Mission Updates / Missionary Updates 27 Sep 2008
Hi Everyone. I received an email from President Gaviola a couple of weeks ago. I asked him if I could post it on the website, and he agreed.

After reading the update on mission, PLEASE give us an update on what each of you are doing. It has been a few years since the last time we gave a "shout-out", and an update.

It is great to hear what each of you are doing.

THE MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT GAVIOLA:

Effective August 1, I have been assigned to oversee Laoag and Angeles missions in addition to Cauayan which I have for over 4 years now. My old Bacolod mission was assigned to someone else. I’m very glad because I have again the whole old Ilagan mission under my care. What excites me the more is the thought that since serving as Mission President in Ilagan then, I always thought that a temple can be built in the north. Now that I have the northern missions, I can have that dream worked on. I cover the provinces of Abra, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Bontoc, Ifugao, Quirino, Nueva Viscaya and Aurora in the northern missions. Angeles mission includes, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Pampanga provinces in central Luzon.
In Ilagan mission this time of the year, the following units, opened in our time have chapels being constructed and will be finished on or before November this year: Dupax branch in Bambang district; Angadanan branch in Alicia District; Victoria branch by San Mateo in Cauayan District; Tabuk, in Roxas district; Tuao branch under the mission; and Gamu branch in Burgos district. Othe runits we opened or made into branches with new chapels already are Allacapan in Ballesteros; Baua in Gonzaga (both from old Aparri district) San Pedro in Roxas; Alinguigan in Ilagan; and Paddad in Alicia.
The old Ilagan mission is probably the mission with most chapels which are large and new designs.
NEXT MOVE: The TEMPLE!!!!!!!
Pls share the news….
Our love and best regards,
Elder and Sister Gaviola

Facebook Group 05 Sep 2008
Hey Everyone, I just wanted to invite you all over to the Philippines Ilagan Mission Facebook group. There's not really much going on yet over there, but there are 60 members of the group so far and it would be nice to get everyone involved with that.

The group is "Closed", meaning you need to request to be allowed in, but the admin of the group (I'm not sure who it is) does good at approving people pretty quick it seems.

The group is found here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2234454165

Google Earth 03 Aug 2008
I noticed they have put some good res pics on google earth of the mission. I have put my markers on some of the mission chapels and houses but am looking for anyone who is doing the same thing. I think with all of us putting in a little input we could have some good maps to go with our mission journals.

Five Star Restaurant 01 May 2008
We ate lunch there today and it was great. Don't let the fact that it is just advertised as a Thai/Chinese restaurant fool you. They have a seperate Filipino menu with the main traditional dishes, desserts and sides. One of the Filipinas that worked there told me she was from Echague and that Pres. Gaviola baptised her. I don't remember her name though. It's a definate must if you are going downtown. The Thai/Chinese menu looked very good as well.
