Served: 1969 - 1970 | Areas Served: Taiwan, Singapore, Australia (when visas were denied and most of the missionaries were transferred to other missions) | Your Occupation: accountant | Spouse: Kathleen | Comments: I was called to the Southern Far East Mission and sent to Taiwan in April of 1969 after 2 months in the Language Training Mission. A month before the mission was divided and the Southeast Asia Mission (Singapore Mission) was created in November 1969, I was transferred to Singapore. It was a wonderful experience to see the Church grow from one branch of 150 members to over 300 members and completely local leadership in a 6 month period. In 1970, due to anti-Mormon problems, the government denied visas and most of us were transferred to other missions. I finished my mission in Australia. I have kept in contact with a number of people in Singapore over the years. They have stayed in our home and we have stayed with them. It has been a wonderful blessing to have continued our association with Singapore and the Saints there. To see the Church grow from the beginning to now and see those that I taught raise righteous families and have the 2nd generation come to BYU has been wonderful. |
