Living prophets.  There are at least five reasons why the true church of Jesus Christ must have a living prophet.  Furthermore, there are at least five phases of apostasy that must occur without a living prophet.

  1. The true church must have a living prophet to receive God’s word.  “God will do nothing unless he revealeth his secrets to his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7) and “whether by God’s own voice or by the voice of his prophets, it the same” (D&C 1:38).  God has always spoken through the mouths of his holy prophets since the world began (Luke 1:70).  While every person may pray and receive personal revelation from God, only a prophet is authorized to receive revelation for the entire church (D&C 43:1-7).  The first sign of an apostasy is when the people no longer hearken to the voice of the Lord spoken through his prophets.

  1. The true church must have a living prophet to resolve doctrinal disputes within the church.  A true prophet, a teacher of righteousness, assures that the church remain united in one faith and one baptism rather than being tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine by the sleight of men who lie in wait to deceive (Ephesians 4:11-14).    When prophets no longer guide the church, doctrinal divisions follow.  Indeed, over 30 different contending factions arose in the first century of Christianity.

  1. The true church must have a living prophet to maintain the same organization that existed in the primitive church that was founded on apostles and prophets.  Paul said that persons must be called of God as was Aaron, who was chosen by current revelation through a living prophet (see Hebrews 5:4; Exodus 28:1).  Evidences of the apostasy were that men were sometimes self appointed, appointed by political leaders, or by the popular vote of the people.  All these unauthorized calls changed the organization of the true church—because there were no longer prophets.

  1. The true church must have a living prophet who knows and witnesses through personal revelation that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God. Joseph Smith declared:  “I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air.  One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other-This is My Beloved Son.  Hear Him!”  What a sad substitute apostate Christendom provided for the witness of prophets.  In place of the testimony of living prophets, confused clergy wrote uninspired creeds whose descriptions of God were arrived at through debate and compromise.

  1. The true church must have a living prophet who holds the holy priesthood, who is a legal administrator; who has power and authority from God to direct the priesthood through the use of priesthood keys.  Because of the priesthood power and keys held by prophets, men and women can enter into sacred covenants with God put into effect through ordinances through which the power of Godliness is manifest (D&C 84:20).  Without living prophets possessing priesthood power and keys, the gifts of the spirit are lost and man is distanced from God, providing still one more sign of an apostasy.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only one on the earth that is directed by a true prophet of God. Our prayer for all us this week is that we can bring at least 180 persons to Christ and his true church so they can be blessed by living prophets.  We also pray daily for your success, safety, health, and happiness.

Love—President and Sister Robison.

SI ALGUIEN DESEA ASISTIR O ESTA APUNTADO EN BYU-IDAHO, AVISANOS PORQUE HAY UNA BECA (SCHOLARSHIP) QUE ESTA DISPONIBLE A MISIONEROS EN ESTA MISION. Gracias.

Ya que en Andalucía, el verano viene temprano, algunos quieren quitar sus chaquetas. Esta decisión necesita ser hecha por zona. Toda la zona entera va sin chaquetas o todos con chaquetas puestos. Habla con su líder de zona de la tema.
