Stories: Baptism in Rio Pirayguazu

In 1977, I remember a special experience where a young man in Eldorado Branch (Misionies) desired to be baptized. He was Hermano Gonzalez, who was the cousin of a related family (Figueredo) in the small branch of about 15 -20 members who met in a converted home into a small meeting place for church. I was the Branch President at the time, and he was baptized in the Rio Pirayguazu, which was just outside of town. Elder Udall and I worked together with his family. When we arrived there, I saw how wide and large the river was, but it was so peaceful and sunny that afternoon that I felt comfortable for him to have this ordinance performance in the large river which slowly meandered downstream as many members looked on from the river banks. I was so very proud that we could perform that baptism and it changed me. I felt the spirit that afternoon and it has stayed in my memory. I want to return to that sacred place on the river someday. That was the last city where I was involved with the baptism and confirmation of a new member, with Elder Udall on my mission, returning to home about a month or so later. I remember the families Benitez and Espinola in that small town where we enjoyed an Asado with them --so delicious too.
While in El Dorado, I became very sick due to my own health issues and went to a hospital in Rosario on the way back to the Mission Home (10/1977). However, I still relish in the special memories I have from serving in El Dorado and seeing Pres. Fernandez as he hugged me at the Rosario Airport before I left for Salt Lake City. |
