Soldier on leave from Iraq killed in traffic accident
By By Scott Kimbler
GAINESVILLE - A soldier reportedly on leave from duty in Iraq was killed and his two small children, ages four and one, were injured on Athens Highway near the Hall-Jackson County line Friday afternoon when a passenger car collided with a tractor-trailer.
Hall County Interim Fire Chief David Kimbrell says the crash happened around 4:45 and two of the patients were airlifted to Atlanta area hospitals.
"The adult male patient was flown to North Fulton Hospital," Kimbrell said. "The pediatric patient, two to three years old, was flown to Scottish Rite."
The male, identified as 29-year-old James Edward Enderle, from North Carolina, died of his injuries.
The third patient, also a child, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
The State Patrol says a small foreign car driven by Enderle crossed the center-line in a curve, colliding with an oncoming tractor-trailer.
The driver of the semi, identified as 36-year-old Jeffery Alan Cowart of Talmo, was not injured.
