Stories: my conversion

Down in Dunedin, in 1964, there happened to be a Family that lived not far from the Chapel on Fenton Crescent. We had the Elders come and visit: Dad was afraid of them. Seemed to want to hide under the bed ! Not more contact after that, because, as we were being shown around the newly- finished Chapel, Mum said : I'm not joining a Church that teaches Polygamy ! That was that. Or was it ? Because in 1979, 2 Sister Missionaries were out tracting; got the evils from me. Knocked on our door- luckily that Mum was not home. She would have given them the throw out, or, booted out the door ! It was the same 2 Sisters whom had knocked on our neighbours' doors, before they came to us. 1981 rolled around, and I arrived home from the Baptist Church. The Missionaries had been, and Mum seemed to be happier. They came back the next night, and I was ready to attack. The Elders were Elder Hajdu of Sydney(pronounced Hidoo), and Elder Rogers of Utah. In any case, on 31 March 1981, I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I had been searching for the true Church for a number of years. And it was in one Discussion, that I discovered what I had been seeking all these years beforehand. What I had previously vilified, was right in front of me all this time. Mum joined same night; Dad 11 days later on. Served a Mission to the Australia Melbourne Mission from 1985 to 1987. The best years of my life. I still reflect upon this. I urge all whom would consider a Mission to consider no longer, for, the Lord needs you. As do the new Members and Investigators. Your Testimony means more than all the money in this world. |
