Post mission I graduated from BYU shortly after marrying a charming fellow Canadian. We moved to Amsterdam and had occasion to run around certain cities in the mission on business - which is like traveling in a parallel universe (who suspected that the rougher neighborhoods we all worked in could feel so menacing, or that colleagues wouldn't be impressed by Brussels' fine greek pitas?). Our son was born in Amsterdam, and we loved it there despite being beset on all sides by vice. When we'd had enough we moved to Seattle because we thought it would suit us and it does. Our daughter was born here, and we're happy. I often get to speak French but have a hard time ‘tutoi-ing’ even people I know well... some mission habits die harder than others. |
