Those were the days! I am so grateful for the chance I had to be a missionary in that place, at that time, and with those people. Everything about my life is better because of it. I probably think about some aspect of that experience every day. The Lord really blessed us.
I teach French and sometimes Spanish at a private school in SLC. I also coach basketball and soccer there. My wife, Tracie, works part-time at the school and since I get a faculty tuition waver, our 3 younger kids get to go there free (huge benefit!). Our oldest is a junior at Utah State. I write songs part time for a software company that makes educational programs, which is a total blast. I have returned to France 6 times, guiding tours. Last time, I stopped by the office in Brussels, and there was a mission secretary, Elder Palmer, sitting at my old desk, answering the same phone number. It was fun to tell him I helped choose and move into that office in 1985. |
