Nova Missao 03 May 2009
Because of the Church's rapid growth in many far-reaching areas of the world, one new mission is being created while others are being consolidated or realigned in an ongoing effort to increase efficiency, balance needs and manage resources.

The Brazil Teresina Mission is being created in northeastern Brazil from a division of the Belem and Fortaleza missions.

Also in Brazil, the Brazil Belo Horizonte East Mission will be combined with the Brazil Belo Horizonte Mission.

Boundaries for the neighboring Brazil Rio de Janeiro North Mission will be realigned to include additional stakes in the north taken from the Brazil Belo Horizonte Mission, while stakes in the southern end of the mission will be transferred to the Brazil Rio de Janeiro Mission. The headquarters of the Brazil Rio de Janeiro North Mission will be moved to Vitoria. The mission will be renamed the Brazil Vitoria Mission.

The California San Francisco Mission will largely be consolidated with the neighboring mission in Oakland. The resulting mission will be named the California Oakland/San Francisco Mission. Portions of the former San Francisco mission will be realigned with the Santa Rosa mission to the north and the San Jose mission to the south.

The Pennsylvania Harrisburg Mission will be combined with the Pennsylvania Pittsburgh Mission, which will then encompass most of the state.

Two missions in Mexico are being realigned, with one of the missions being renamed. Boundaries between the Mexico Guadalajara and Mexico Guadalajara South Missions are being redrawn. The Guadalajara South mission will be renamed the Mexico Guadalajara East Mission.

In Africa, the Nigeria Lagos East Mission is being combined with the Nigeria Lagos West Mission and will be renamed the Nigeria Lagos Mission.

In Taiwan, the Taiwan Kaohsiung Mission, which comprises much of the southern portion of the island, is being combined with the Taiwan Taichung Mission and the Taiwan Taipei Mission.
