Dear fellow missionaries
Our beloved President Christensen peacefully passed away yesterday at 4:48 PM. Surrounded by his family he overcame this life and returned back to our Heavenly Father. He will be dearly missed not only by his family but all of us who were fortunate enough to have him as our Mission President.
I would like to relate a tender experience that happened the night before he left us. While he was in a semi-conscience state, his family had gathered around his bedside at the hospital and several family members took turns reading the letters that you had written. As the spirit washed over them and your kind and loving words brought tears to their eyes, we felt that President Christensen was permitted to hear your expressions of love.
Never before in my life have I witnessed such a unified out pouring of love as I witnessed as the Christensen family fill the hospital room in a quiet vigil to say their goodbyes to their dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and patriarch of their family.
For those of you who would like to attend the viewing, it will be held from 6 to 8 PM this Sunday, April 1 at the stake center located at 1930 South and 2100 East, Salt Lake City.
The funeral will be held at the stake center on Monday, April 2 at 12 noon. There will be another viewing one hour before the funeral begins.
With the passing of President Christensen we have decided to create a book of remembrance for Sister Christensen and her children from the wonderful letters that you are sending. I understand that this is short notice and have extended the time for your responses from this Wednesday until this Friday midnight to give us sufficient time to print your letters and complete book of remembrance. Email to cfmreunion@gmail.com
I would encourage those who have a desire, who have not yet expressed their feelings about President and Sister Christensen, to send us an email. Your sweet memories and expressions of love will bring tremendous comfort to Sister Christensen and the family during this time of sorrow.
As I have had a chance to read your responses I have recognized a common thread that runs through all of our experiences. That is that President Christensen made each one of us feel he loved and cared for us personally and individually. We felt that when we visited with him we were his only missionary and that all his concern and attention were directed singularly on us.
How fortunate we were to have him as our Mission President. His legacy of truth and leadership lives on in our lives and the lives of our families.
