When I arrived in the mission, President Monson had been home about a year. Pres. Pitcher and then Pres. Toronto led the mission while I was there. Sis. Toronto lives a few blocks from me and I still see her occationally. She is a sweet woman, but suffereing from age-related problems.
I'm married to Joan Fairbanks and have five kids, three of whom have served misisons, the last one is in Russia now.
A few years ago my daughter and I drove from Sarnia to Quebec City and visited many of the places where I had worked. I found only one member I knew, Bill Christmas, who was playing the organ for stake conference. So much has changed, but what a thrill to be there again almost forty years later.
I would like to hear from others who were there during the Pitcher/Toronto period. |
