Ah, to be young again ...
hmm (me thinking back on my less than stellar youth) ...
Ok, maybe not. But I do think back fondly on the years I spent in Chile. Such a wonderful country and such beautiful people! (Except, of course, the ones who shout "No hay nadie aqui" from behind closed doors - I never got to see them, so who knows what *they* look like?)
Not that I am one of those people who sits back glorying in the past - mainly because I've got too much going on right now to do that. (Someday, someday!) After leaving the mission, I met and married my wife, the former Mendy Leigh Sechrist, graduated from BYU, and began working in the then booming computer field. Unfortunately, my dreams of instant wealth didn't materialize before the 90's turned into the dreaded "Y2K", so I'm still working with computers today (instead of making philanthropic forays around the world with the Gates/Hunter Foundation - Curse you, DotCom bubble!)
Even though it sometimes feels like it, my life isn't all work - I also spend time with my four beautiful, yet tempermental children (got the beauty from their mother and their temperment from me). Our oldest is about to turn 8 and our youngest just turned 1. We've got three girls and one boy - so the boys are outnumbered. In spite of their inherited temperment, the children are a lot of fun - I know far more about princesses and "High School Musical" than a grown man should know.
And just in case you were beginning to wonder, I AM still active. (And still trying to learn to be a good Home Teacher - why is it soooo hard to to get out before the end of the month, why?!) When I'm not at work or at home, I am at the church, trying to learn to be a good Second Counselor in the Bishopric. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve, but also intimidated - we've got so many wonderful people in our ward, I don't know why the Lord called me.
Anyhow, I hope you are all well and I'd love to hear from anyone from the good old days. |
