Comments:
We are presently serving in Chile and presiding over the Chile Antofagasta Mission. What a great privilege to return to Chile. We have seen wonderful growth in the church here. There are Stakes where we didn't even have branches when I served. We had the opportunity to travel to Santiago for the rededication of the temple by President Hinckley. What a great blessing for Chile. He is dearly beloved by the Chilean members.

Another highlight was to return to Ovalle for a fireside. Stephen K. Miller, myself, Crae J. Wilson and Douglas Bundy had the privilege to open Ovalle for missionary work in August of 1967. Ovalle is outside of our mission. I obtained permission from the Area Presidency to hold a fireside there. We had about 150 members that came. Many of those that were baptized in the early days of the branch came. They were there with their children and grandchildren! It was an emotional night to see so many we had worked with. I read letters that Stephen Miller and Crae Willson had written to the Saints in Ovalle for the occasion. I spoke of some of the many spiritual experiences we had in opening the work there. Ovalle has grown and is now a district with 5 branches. I spoke with two men whom I knew when I was in Ovalle, in its beginnings, Jorge Zaballos, who Elder Miller and I taught and Guillermo Antivilo who is now the Director of Temporal Affairs in the Area Chile. We had intended to have the fireside on the anniversary of the opening of the work on Aug 18, but Jorge Zeballos was called to serve as a Mission President in the Chile Concepcion Sur Mission, to begin on July 1st. Imagine, I get to serve in Chile as a fellow Mission President, with the 12 year old boy that Elder Miller and I taught, 39 years ago!

We tell our missionaries "You can count the seeds in an apple but you can not count the apples in a seed". What a blessing it is to now work with many of the seeds that were planted by so many of you in our era of the Chilean Mission!
