Really Cool Dudes - Prior to 1969

Chipman, Steve Added 6/18/99

What a neat idea! It's been so many years since the original President Brower group has had a reunion (to my knowledge) that I have pretty well lost touch with everybody I knew from the mission. I guess some may see this homepage and we may be able to hook up again. We were the group that was in the two countries about one to two years after they were opened. I live at 824 East Hibiscus Avenue, Sandy, UT and served in Cali and Bogota in Colombia and Caracas and Maracaibo in Venezuela from 1968 - 1970. My phone number is (801) 571-8278 I served in Cali, Colombia with David Johnson, Jaime Mella, and Ricardo Yescas. Well, thanks for taking my information.

I'm a former missionary (1968-1970) in Cali. After spending most of my mission time in Venezuela, I was transferred to Cali with the specific assignment to bring little three-year-old Inez Aristizabal to the USA for surgery on her spine. I'm interested to find out if anyone can tell me how the family is doing. My homepage is located at http://www.coastlink.com/users/jclark/index.htm. I'm glad there are others who care deeply for the people of Colombia! Thanks for all you do.

I served in Cali before it became a mission of it's own. At the time I first arrived in Cali, The whole country of Colombia was part of the Mision Andina, whose mission home was located in Lima, Peru. This was in 1968. There were no chapels in Colombia at that time. I was part of a team of pioneering missionaries, opening up small branches of the church, and holding our meetings in rented houses which we used for chapels. I was one of the four original North American elders who opened up La Rama de la Forteleza, en el barrio de la Forteleza. The president of the mission at that time was brother Jesperson. I worked in Cali for about 4 months, until I was transfered to Bogota. After about 6 months in Bogota, I was transfered back to Cali, where my comp and I resided in the barrio de Santa Elena. We baptized a family in La forteleza by the name of Escobar. We also baptized a large family&nbs! p; by the name of Jordan. Strange. It's been a long time since then. I don't remember all of the first names. While I was on my mission, 1968-1970, the Mision Andina was split, and Colombia became part of the Mision Colombo-Venezolana, I was transfered to Medellin, and ultimately to Caracas, Venezuela. I went home after my mission and got drafted into the U.S. Army. (Vietnam) I served my tour of duty, went to college, got married, and re-joined the Army. I served in Operation Desert Storm, and am, to this day, still on active duty. I wanted to resister on this site, even though I was never part of the actual Cali Colombia mission. I still feel that I was. Later dude!...

Turner, Gary Added 6/1/98

I served from October 1968 to January 1971. I worked in Cali (11 months), Medellín (6 months), Bucaramanga (4 months) and Ibagué (3 months). I loved every day of my time in Colombia. Some of my companions were Elders Gittins, Jaime Mella, King Udall, Randall Kluge, Leonard Losee, William Blake, Thomas Warby, Elder Turley, Gary Wilden, Stephen Groom and Max Johnson. I was blessed to teach and baptize the Rincón family in Cali. They have sent 4 missionaries out and are living a successful life in the States now. I speak with them often. I am teaching Spanish (25 years now! ) at Wahlquist Jr. High in Weber School District. I live in West Weber, a small farming town 5 miles west of Ogden. I also see Pres. Guillermo Sanchez and his family frequently. They are all living in SLC. My home address is: 4195 West 400 South, Ogden, UT 84404. Telephone: 1-801-731-3144. I can be reached at this e-mail address from September to May. This is a great website and I appreciate all of Elder Adams' work. ¡ Seamos Fieles Hermanos !
