Stories: I heard a voice

Elder Richard Call and I were serving in York as the Zone Leaders and one very cold and dark morning around 6.00am we were about to drive to Scarborough to work with the missionaries there. It was Elders Calls turn to drive and as was required after the prayer we both put on our seat belts.
As I settled into my seat for the journey I heard a voice which whispered 'Tighten your seat bel't. I obeyed immediatley and recall how tight I had pulled the seat belt across my chest. This was in the days before inertia seat belts!
Elder Call has a wonderful baratone singing voice and it was always a delight to hear his singning. This morning he was in full throttle singning from the musical Oklahoma. After a while I joined in as we sang 'Poor Jud is Dead'.
At that point on a bend in the road the car left our side of the road and hit head on into a car coming in the opposite direction. The impact caused Elder Call to hit his head on the rear vision mirror, but I was able to force open the drivers side and get a dazed Elder Call out of danger and the driver of the other vehicle too.
I stopped the traffick coming in both directions before a bigger pile up was created. I am thankful for that still small voice! |
