Since my mission I went to BYU and graduated with a BA in English, history, and secondary education. I have taught high school English and journalism since 1998 on the Navajo Reservation in Chinle, Arizona, and since 2000 in Monterey, California.
In 1993 I joined the Utah Army National Guard as a Combat Engineer. In 2001 I went to Germany on active duty for the Army as a 27E (35A) TOW missile maintenance/repair. In 2004 I deployed to Tikrit/Samarra, Iraq, with the 1st ID for one year.
On my return from Iraq in 2005, I processed out of the Army and moved back to Utah where I taught high school English for the Tooele County School District until 2007.
Now I teach English at Two Rivers High School in Ogden, Utah, for the Weber School District.
In 2005 I received an MA in English from Northern Arizona University.
I have one daughter, Sophia, who is thirteen (1999), and a son, Kai Joseph, who is eight (2004). I was married in 1998 to Kristi Stevens from North Salt Lake, but later divorced in 2005. I am now married since 2009 with Shelley Nelson from North Ogden.
