For zone conference, missionaries under President Jones usually stayed at Formule 1 motels. Formule 1 is the French affiliate of Motel 6. The rooms are minimalist, usually consisting of a two-man bed with a one-man bunk, a corner shelf, a TV, a sink, and an open wardrobe. Showers and bathrooms are located at the ends of the halls and are self-cleaning (i.e. after you get out, jets of hot soapy water clean all the surfaces).
They aren't fancy, but they are cheap. Their main drawback tends to be that they aren't too close to train stations, but if you rent a car, the savings will probably be more than worth it.
[NOTE: This should not be considered to be an endorsement for Formule 1.]
