John Andersen is self-employed carpet cleaner in Portland, Oregon. In his spare time he is the scoutmaster of a troop of over 80 boys, and 60 registered adult volunteers. He also volunteers as a tour guide at the Oregon Historical Society, and leads walking tours in downtown Portland. He grew up in Southern California. After completing his mission and BYU, he spent four years in England as an aircraft maintenance officer. Later he moved to Indiana where he taught several college level German courses while studying German Literature at Purdue University. John and his wife Mandy have two children, Heidi 17, and Kory 15. In January 2001, he took his wife and children to England, the Netherlands, and Germany (spent most of the time in Stuttgart). Since then, he has taken his family to China, and Egypt.
