Passing of Pres. Orville Gunther 18 Jan 2007
Orville Carl Gunther 1912 ~ 2007 Orville Carl Gunther passed away January 13, 2007 in American Fork at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his wife Betha on December 8, 2003. Orville was born on January 1, 1912 in Lehi, Utah to Richard Carl Fredrick and Marie Rutishauser Gunther. He graduated from Lehi High School and served an LDS mission in Germany and Austria. Orville married Betha Orinda Allred, his high school sweetheart, on August 5, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple. After graduating from Brigham Young University, Orville taught history at American Fork High School. Orville loved teaching and made lasting impressions on many students. After his father's accidental death, Orville left teaching to continue his father's sheet metal business, now Gunther's Comfort Air. Later, Orville entered banking and served the community for many years as President and Chairman of the Bank of American Fork. Active in government, Orville served in the Utah State House of Representatives, as Chairman of the Utah County Republican Party, and as Chairman of the State Tax Commission. Orville served in many Church callings including Bishop, South German Mission President, Regional Representative, Provo Temple President, and Temple Sealer. Orville and Betha had five foster children, Monica Wissing Peterson, Marilynn Wiedenmeier Adamson, Deanna Tahbo Sakiestewa, Louise Tahbo, and Marie Stepke Floyd. Orville is survived by a brother Lloyd, Brigham City; a sister Marcille, Santa Barbara, CA; his children Paul (Lynda), New York; Miriam Thomas (Paul), Tempe, AZ; Dale (Rose Ann), Blaine (Linda), Dean (Deana), Debra Holley (Stephen), American Fork; 32 grandchildren, and 64 great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by a brother Carl, and sisters Alice, Eva, and Marie. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20 at the American Fork 12th Ward, 673 East 300 North, at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family may visit Saturday 12:30-1:45 p.m. or Friday 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the American Fork 12th ward. Interment will be in the Lehi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the BYU Gunther Scholarship, 1501 N. Canyon Rd., Provo 84604, UVSC Gunther Scholarship, 800 W.
