Former Salt Lake City resident, Kenneth L. Zabriskie, 82, passed away of heart failure on Feb. 18, 2010, during a visit to Orlando, FL.
He was born August 23, 1927 in Provo, Utah to George O. and LaVera Lublin Zabriskie. His career was in business - primarily sales and management. Mr. Zabriskie served his country in the Navy during World War II and was on one of the first ships to arrive at Nagasaki, Japan in 1945.
He married LeOra Williams the following year in Oakland, California; they were married for 52 years. She preceded him in death in 1998 while he served as President of the Orlando Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had previously served on the Young Men General Board and in the presidencies of the Houston TX North and the Lake Mary FL Stakes. He also presided over the West Indies Mission from 1982-1985, which included the country of Haiti.
Ken was sealed to Janet Boyer in 2001 and the couple has been serving together in the Atlanta Temple since that time: he has been a sealer as well as a stake patriarch for the past several years.
In addition to his wife, Janet, he is survived by his siblings: Dale O. Zabriskie, Marian Lamb, Nancy Pearson, and David Phillips, as well as his children: Steve Zabriskie, Sharon Barden, Susan and Oscar Bluth, and B. Dale and Ramona Zabriskie; and Janet's children: Laura and Ross Hirschi, Linda and Roger Flower, Chuck and Ginger Hurmence, and Aileen and Jim Bogdon. He and Janet are the grandparents of 28 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Lake Mary Florida LDS Chapel and the interment at Highland Memorial Gardens, beside his wife LeOra, in Apopka, Florida on February 22, 2010. The family requests contributions be made in Ken's name to LDSPhilanthropies.org to benefit the people of Haiti. |
