The Mission Lives On 18 Jul 2001
I have started working part-time at a temple clothing store down in one of the malls in downtown Salt Lake City. Well these two girls came into the store and were looking around. One looked at me and asked why all the clothes in the store were white. I told her that they were meant for people to wear in the temple. She asked why we only wear white in the temple and I explained to her the symbolism that goes along with white and purity. Then she asked me some other questions about our beliefs as Latter-day Saints. She had watched some program on TV that had said we practice polygamy and don't let black people into our church. (does this sound familiar to anyone?) I explained about all of that. We talked about Christ coming to the america's and that brought some new questions for her. Then I remembered how it states in the Bible about Christ having other people in his fold besides those in Jerusalem. I was kind of frustrated because I couldn't remember where the scripture was found and then all of a sudden the words to the scripture came to my mind and I was able to quote it from memory. The spirit was definitely present. I am now glad more than ever that I worked hard to memorize those scriptures while I was on my mission, because it helps me to be a better member missionary. If we are willing the Lord puts opportunities before us. The mission doesn't die when the nametag comes off. (July 17, 2001)
