Comments: I served in Ireland from 71-73 when the mission home was in Belfast. I served with President Summerhayes who organized the first stake in Ireland! I started on Upper Newtownards Rd. working with the Hollywood Branch. Opened the town of Newtownards in March of 1972 and lived in the Devonshire Arms Hotel. Next went to Bangor. Transferred to Belfast living on Jerusalem Street (lived through Bloody Friday). Attended the Rosetta Branch. (Ask me about the baptism of an English soldier and how it was accomplished) Finally went to Renlagh in Dublin (we called it the Embassy area). Was close to the Terenure Branch Building which was the only church building in Dublin at the time. Next, transferred to Clontarf on the North side where I taught the Meehan's (St. Lawerence Rd.). Finished my mission in Waterford via Bunratty Castle. While in Waterford, I was requested by President Summerhayes to return to Belfast where I was being investigated by the RUC for driving under the influence. | |
