I married Jenifer in 1990, and we went to the University of Pittsburgh to get our degrees. We spent about six years in Japan, me working on a doctorate in Japanese History, Jenifer teaching English at Japanese universities. We lived in Fukuoka and Nagareyama (Chiba-ken). Along the way we adopted four children, Lachlan (b. 1999) and Case (b. 2007) in the US through LDS Family Services, and Kiki and Aiko (both b. 2002) in Japan through Fukuoka City. Jenifer and I taught at the University of North Texas. Now I teach Japanese history at Kyushu University.
