He had his first baptism in June. The man had problems with the Word of Wisdom but had a strong testimony so he was finally able to give it up and get baptized. A mother and son were also baptized the end of August. The mother had been investigating the church for almost a year but she couldn't stop smoking. As Jeff put it, "Yes she could!" and was baptized. He's very busy. Their goal in Japan is 50 baptisms by December. He has sent us pickled Octopus twice (it's a thin "treat" (ack!) and it can fit in an envelope). His current companion is Elder Quilter. The area is very mountainous. Their ward building is 30 minutes each way by bike and Jeffrey says it's uphill both ways.
