Served in Kushiro twice? 16 Dec 2001
Sears Choro, Did you serve in Kushiro twice as you've listed? Just making sure you didn't list it twice be mistake. - Dillon Choro < JSPM '93-'95 > ____________________________ Dillon Choro, When I went there after serving for about 5 months in the Toko apartment in Asahikawa (the Toko branch had been discontinued for a year or so and everyone when to the Asahikawa Ward downtown). I went to the North West apartment in Kushiro first. It was near Ito Yokado and about 1 mile north and west of the Kushiro Eki. It was a four man apartment that served everything behind the Eki, west across the river to the Shitsugen and beyond and north to the branch boundaries (about 2.5 hours away by train). The Abashiri Elders had the area from the northern branch boundaries (Shari, Kiyosato, Wakoto, Lake Mashuko, etc. (This is where my wife is from, and I lived there for our first 4 years of marriage so I am very familiar with this area)). I was transferred to Abashiri after a few months and stayed there for 5 months. I returned to Kushiro for my last two months to the Harutori Apartment (literally right on the mosquito infested shores of Lake Harutori) which was just south of the river in front of the Kushiro Eki and sandwiched between the ocean and the lake. The Kushiro Earthquake did quite a number on that area. When I was living in Abashiri after my mission I visited the area several times for work and to travel with friends. The missionaries at that time had moved to much better apartments. The Harutori apartment at the time I was there did the downtown area and everything south of the Eki and east to Akkeshi and Nemuro (there weren't any missionaries in those areas anymore). - Sears Choro < JSPM '89-'91 >
