I was in my first area with the amazing Elder Jacob Naylor. We had found this guy outside the Shinoro chapel and Kikuchi Bin Choro made an apointment with him for us (^_^)
So anyway Yagihashi Hiroki was awesome, but had some... walls up when it came to Baptism. Anyway so after we had met heaps and he had been coming to church and we had asked and taught him all about baptism, we got him to pray about it in the lesson, and wait for an answer.
I was a long wait. After he asked in his prayer we all kneeled there, (seiza of course) for what seemed like forever. He had asked Heavely Father a specific question. "When?"
Im sure both my companion and our member team looked up a few times to see what was happening. I know I did. I looked at my companion and he motioned for me to just wait.
I already had the answer. I was only just beginning in Japanese, so the answer came into my head in English. "The 5th! The 5th!" It screamed. Why couldnt Yagihashi san hear it? It was so loud in my head!
Anyway after ages he looks up and we asked him when he should be baptised. He looks at us and says "I will be baptised sometime"
As missionaries we always hear people say "jikan ga areba" or "itsuka kikimasu" 'If I have time', or 'Ill listen some other time"
I was so dissapointed because I had such a strong impression he had to be baptised on the 5th, but he didnt feel it.
Little did I know at that time, but in Japanese "itsuka" was not just 'sometime' but it also meant the "5th!" AMAZING!
he had heard the same answer as me!
My answer was in English, his in Japanese!
Cool huh?
It was such an amusing, yet faith promoting experience that I am grateful for.
Yagihashi san is now Yagihashi kyoudai. yay. |
