Stories: Returned missionary

Just before the recent TNM reunion, I had the opportunity to return to Japan. I took those members of my high school band who were willing to raise the $3000 it took to make the trip (28 of them), several chaperones, and my wife.
We visited Saitama-ken (I was so excited to see signs for Ohmiya!) then went down by bullet train to the Osaka and Kyoto areas.
All in all, we performed three times, heard some incredible musicianship from the Japanese school bands, and saw many wonderful sights.
But the greatest experience of the trip was attending church in a little branch somewhere in the Kobe mission area, I think. Nothing could compare with the hour or so we had with those wonderful people, with the wonderful Spirit that was present, and the sweetness of the meeting. They ran short on time, so we (one of the band dads on the trip was also a returned missionary from Japan--and I) were invited to share our testimonies. I had barely started when I couldn't speak, being overcome with emotion. I've always talked about how much I love Japan and the people, but when I was there in that little meetinghouse it really hit me. I guess a missionary's love for the people he serves stays with him--maybe more than he realizes. They really are special people.
Thanks
