Comments:
After completing his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in Business Finance in 1976, Richard worked for Satterfield Realty in Pocatello, Idaho. As a producer, he was named the agency’s Rookie of the Year in 1977 and Realtor of the Year in 1979. Following his marriage to the former Wendy Semons in 1980, he took a position as an Area Purchasing Manager for the LDS Church where he coordinated all purchasing in the North Eastern States. He was also the contract manager of numerous products purchased by the church including the multi-million dollar carpet contract.
Following the completion of his MBA degree, Richard was recruited to join the initial marketing department for IHC Health Plans and helped them successfully launch their insurance products. While helping employers meet their employee benefit needs through the plans and services of IHC he was asked to many times to help companies whose needs and requirement did not match the products and services of IHC. He then decided to become an independent broker and started W. R. Herd and Associates.
Richard has been a member of the Utah Association of Health Underwriters (UAHU) and National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) since shortly after beginning his agency and currently serves as President-elect of UAHU. His term as president will begin May of 2004.
Richard and his wife Wendy are the proud parents of 5 children (3 boys and 2 girls) including the special blessing of a child coming to them “in their old age.” Ryan is playfully referred to as their “Abraham and Sarah” project and is supposed to keep them feeling young. As this point he is wearing them out! |
