We were sorry to hear the tragic news that Elder David Holland passed away last night (10/7/04). You never think that you are giong to have to try to apply your knowledge and testimony of eternity to a 25 year old newlywed...... He was an exceptional missionary and he did great work for our family. He was a very diligent and hard worker. He never shirked a task that was given and he never refused help to someone in need. We will always remember how his smile could light up a room. There are so many people that he taught here in this mission that have been forever changed by his presence here. We miss him so very much. We pray that the Lord's peace be with you all that feel his loss and with his family at this time. Know that he is in good hands and Dave is smiling down on all of us still. We love you all and hope that you can find comfort in the Spirit and in your memory of David.
Love,
Mark, Jody, Jason, Amanda & Julie (Hoot)

As most everyone else here, I'm looking for a missionary friend who I believe is serving in this mission. His name is Elder Thomas Odenwalder. If he is there, he's probably fresh out of the MTC. I believe he left sometime during the summer. I was supposed to get his address but he left before I could get it. If any one knows him or how I could write him somehow, I would be greatful for the information! Thanks a bunch! Emily |

Hi All!
It has been such a long time since we have had some news and then there was so much happening that we forgot to share. We have to mention first and foremost that we miss Pres. and Sister Gleed, Alicia and Lindsey so much and wish them well back at home in Utah. Pres. Evan is a wonderful mission president and is helping this mission to continue to thrive as Pres. Gleed left it. We also miss all of you. You all know who you are...the many elders and sisters that served in Duluth and worked with our family. There were a TON of you. So many of you have all gone home and begun school or even finished already...it's been nearly impossible to keep up with the engagements and the weddings and the babies....Whew! But, Amanda does her best to keep on top of that. So what have we been up to you might wonder.....well let me tell you.
Mark is still with the paper mill and has been for some time now...but with the economy the way that it is they are making some cut backs in the work force there and hey may or may not be employed very soon. We'll keep you posted on that. He has kept his pilots license current and is still accellerating at the many facets of flight. The big news is that they are moving to Barnum. Yep, Momma and Mark will be moving 30 miles south of Duluth and be in the Carlton Branch (that will very soon be a ward because of the wonderful missionary work happening there) and that might be just what they are needing.
Momma is working again. She took a job in a mom 'n pop flower shop. She is liking her job working with flowers again, not her dream but it keeps her busy. She is really excited to be moving out to Barnum. She will be taking full advantage of the space that they will have on their new property. And the barn. That's her favorite part of the whole thing. There is an enromous barn! She will be selling some of her canned things out of a little shop in the downstairs part of the barn and the loft will be for dances or something..... But this is what they have said that they have wanted for so long...they are getting their dream home.
The kids' dad Jim (at one point or another you all met him.....right?) got remarried last December to a woman named Pam. She was born and raised in MN but joined the Marines and moved to New Jersey. She was visiting her parents and met their father at a singles dance. See....they DO work!!!! Well...they are very happy and things are looking great for them. They just sold her old house out in NJ and are buying Mark and Jody's house in Duluth so the kids can stay there while they go to school . That was very kind of them to do. The kids are very grateful to her and their father for that.
Jason is still on his mission. We know some of you may not even have known that he FINALLY went, but he DID. He was called to the Michigan Lansing Mission. Not too far from home. He was having a rough go in the beginning with some various problems, but not being trunky. He loves his mission and the work that he is out there doing. He comes home this Christmas (2003) we are all exited for his homecoming talk. It's been a while since we've heard his voice.
Amanda is still working at the post office...for the moment. She is still dating Josh and things are going well for them. She will FINALLY be starting school in the summer and getting things underway with other things as well. Some people may be surprised the next time they see her!!! All those that know the skinny....she is keeping up with her photography as best she can. She has another wedding this August that she will be doing....that should be fun for her. Her plan is to get certified as a Medical Assistant and go to school part time for photography and music then. Josh is finishing up with his Computer Science Degree at UWS and will be joining the Air Force as an officer. The wedding will be taking place somewhere in all that.
Julie (Hoot) is STILL working at Walgreens nearly full time whilst she is in school full time as well. She is getting good marks and is really happy. We are so proud of her and hope that she continues to pursue her talents with helping people. She is taking a course to be a Medical Assistant. She will be done after Fall semester (2003) or after Spring (2004). The medical profession is screaming for these trained professionals so the girls will have their pick of employment when they are done.
Now...the animals......Andy is still alive. Unbelievable eh? Yeah, 13 this year. He just came back from the vet and he said that he may be having some liver issues but the vet is confident that anything that it is is probably benign. Baby died last year and Puckett just wandered off one day and hasn't been back. We miss them both lots. If there was one thing that all of our animals have demonstrated over time it's been that they are definitely individuals and we miss the quirky little things that they used to do. Now we have two other cats; Oscar and Gabby. Amanda named them both. When Oscar came to our home he was kind of crabby and grouchy....so she started calling him Oscar and it stuck. Gabby...well...if you ever visit you will understand why she got her name and which one she is out of the two. She never stops meowing. Never. She's always making noise about something. It gets old sometimes but...we still love her.
Well....that is what our family has been up to and the things that have been going on. We have lost touch with a lot of people that were here...off the top of my head...Elder Brandon Kruse. Got married to a "really cool gal" (according to Elder David Holland) and we haven't heard from him since. We heard that Nathand Spencer got married to a young woman named Courtney Kensington. We heard that Elder Bracken and Stacie Crockett were married and had a little one in Feb. But there are so many more of you out there that we know and love....even some that we only met once or twice. Like Elder Furniss and Elder Knight. Then there are the "Dudes"....you all know who you are and if you don't keep in contact more regularly you will lose your "Dudendom" and you KNOW this. Feel free to email us and let us know where you are what you are up to. All of you that remember us. Even if you only came to our home once....we promise...we remember you! And we miss you all! We love you! Stay strong and keep the faith!
Love Always,
the Fambly |
