In the fall of 1999, my companion and I were driving in Schenectady. We were flagged down by a tall black man who told us he was in need of help. He said he was a member from Georgia or Florida who had just taken a job to coach basketball in Albany. He told us that he had lost his wallet or something, either way he needed a couple bucks till he could get his credit cards back. An elder in my district gave him a few bucks, as the member promised he'd come to church with us. Over the next week, he tried to get in contact with our bishop to borrow money, but by the next Saturday we thought everything was in order, because he invited us to his hotel for dinner. It was a nice hotel and the restaraunt inside it where he bought us steak dinners was nice. We played ping pong with him at the hotel, and then back to work that night. Sunday morning when the Other elders went with a member to pick him up for church, they saw that he was being carried out in handcuffs. Apparently this 'member' was a con artist living off stolen credit cards, and had a habit of preying on mormon missionaries. My story isn't too complete... anyone remember any more details.... LDS QUOTE: |
"You are a great army of returned missionaries. Go forward with new zeal and determination, and through your example shine the light of the gospel in this troubled world. This is the Lord’s work in which we are engaged. God lives. Jesus is the Christ. We belong to His Church. This is my witness to you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
