Stories: The Ice Storm of 1998
Displaying 1 - 1 of 1 -- Add Story
I was serving in Watertown during the winter of 1997-1998. We had a crazy ice storm that shut down the whole city for over two weeks. We didn’t have power, heat, hot water or anything. If you needed to buy food you had to buy it with cash because the stores had no power to run credit cards. At the time I was serving with Elder Christiansen. Our apartment wasn't very good about keeping heat in, so we moved in with Elder Dodds and Elder Powell who were also serving in Watertown. After we ran out of food, we decided we needed to go to the store. We got to the store. The power was out so the employees led us through the store with a flashlight. We pooled our money together to see what we had enough to buy. That is when we realized that we had about two dollars and twenty seven cents.
We thought we were in big trouble. Then Elder Dodds asked Elder Powell how much money he had. Elder Powell said, "Well, I have thirty dollars, but that’s emergency money."
We all laughed and laughed, then we made him give us the money so we could buy thirty dollars worth of Raman noodles. |

LDS QUOTE: |
"You are a great army of returned missionaries. Go forward with new zeal and determination, and through your example shine the light of the gospel in this troubled world. This is the Lord’s work in which we are engaged. God lives. Jesus is the Christ. We belong to His Church. This is my witness to you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
