MY TESTIMONY by Yasuhiro Matsushita
I was baptized at Christmas time, 1956, in Sapporo. I was just 17 years old. About four months later I was interviewed by the Branch President, Alfred Vernon Ball of Lewisville, Idaho, to be ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood.
I distinctly remember that at that time there were uncertain feelings in my mind---if the Priesthood was really true, whether or not I should receive it, whether or not I was qualified. In order to find the answer, I daily asked the Lord in prayer. During the night of May 2, 1957, at 3 a.m. the answer suddenly came.
I was lightly sleeping when suddenly I was struck by a tremendous power. I felt like I was being forced, pulled out of doors on a stormy night. I tried to escape from this fearful, cold darkness, begging the Lord for help, struggling for assistance.
Within a matter of minutes, I felt another great power, so great that the evil power vanished and all fearfulness left. I felt a feeling of peace, and a comfortable warmth came into my soul.
Immediately I saw before my eyes a pure white bright screen. Kanji letters with the following message appeared upon the screen: "THOU, RECEIVE THE PRIESTHOOD IN THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS."
At that same instant my heart was penetrated and burned within me as I saw and heard these words. I saw a man dressed in white at the right corner of the screen and I supposed that the clear, keen voice came from this messenger.
Every time I was called to a new position of service in the Church, I remembered that sacred commandment, receiving courage to fulfill responsibilities of increasing difficulty.208-657-2576 |
