Comments:
Married Jenny October 21, 1961 Graduated BYU (Asiatic Studies) 1962 served in Army Security Agency in Japan, 1963-1965 MA, Stanford Un. 1967 (Japanese Lit.) Senior Lecturer, Japanese Lit., Auckland Un. (Auckand NZ), PhD Stanford Un 1977 (Japanese Lit.) 1971-1974 BYU (Japanese Lit), 1975-present. We have 6 children (all married) and 16 grandchildren. We have returned to Japan a number of times to direct Study Abroad, Intern, and student performance programs. Sept. 2007- I've retired, so this email address should replace my old one. jennyleeperkins@gmail.com He was at the Fuji View Hotel Conference May 13, 1959 in Row 5, 8th from Left.
I'm now retired from BYU as Professor of Japanese, and enjoying a little free time very much. My wife, Jenny, and I have six children, 21 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. They all live in Utah valley, so we keep busy tending (playing with) our grandchildren. Though we've had several opportunities to visit Japan over the years, I still have very nostalgic feelings about those days as a missionary. Sometimes I kind of wish Japan were the same as then, but of course I am happy with the great progress the country has made and the relative prosperity of its people now. Just when we think we are in bad shape materially we remember how the people in Japan were struggling just a few years ago and realize how abundantly we have all been blessed. I'm sure I'm joined by all the missionaries who served with you all those years ago in praying and wishing for the very best in health for you and Frances. How we all miss your beautiful duets of those lovely Hawaiian love songs. I know I will be forever in your debt for the examples you set and your loving leadership, both of which made of my mission experience a truly memorable time in my life. Best wishes and eternal love,
George and Jenny Perkins

"Obedience is the price, faith is the power, love is the motive, the Spirit is the key, and Christ is the reason." The motto of the Japan Fukuoka Mission can be applied not only to missionary work, but to everyday life. -BYU President Bateman
