I've just finalized my retirement and want to be in Japan ASAP.
Ideally Kandie and I would be on our (first) mission to Japan in January,
2008. We are studying Japanese language harder than ever.
Last Friday I completed negotiations to
retire next Dec., 2007 from the U of Idaho after 32 yrs teaching. I was flattered by requests not to retire so soon, and I agreed to stay full time long enough to see through our professional accreditation's six-year inspection during next fall semester. I love teaching and research, and would not even think about retiring if the call
to serve was not ringing so loud in my prayers and heart, and ditto, my
wife. I also agreed to stay connected to my university as a professor, give
out engineering scholarships in Japan, and help enhance my university's
newest initiatives with Japan.
Hopefully, maintaining this university connection might build on our
influence for good as a missionary couple by capitalizing on my professional relations to various Japanese universities. Also, we thought we might capitalize on our scouting, as we are Assistant District- and District- Commissioners serving ~1300 (mostly non-LDS) scouts in Idaho and Wa, and have been connecting to the vigorous Boy Scout movement in Japan (non-LDS).
I became sure that my wife's fantastic craft skills (you name it) would be a much bigger draw. Somehow this makes me fondly remember sometimes being a thorn in the side of my Zone Leader and now Mission President, President Hill, and think what fun it would be to dendo with him again, too, (even if we are in separate locations or mission boundaries).
How exciting, Elder and Sister Robertson! I hope we might see you in Japan next January. Regards, Keith Prisbrey (65-68) |
