Comments:
Charles Lee Wooten passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008, of complications from pancreatitis after a four month battle in the hospital. He was born in San Diego, Ca, Dec 1, 1938.
Chuck and family joined the church when he was a teenager and never waivered from that faith.
He graduated high school and joined the Navy to see the world. He jumped at the chance to be transferred to Japan for 2 years. He loved Japan and the Japanese people. He and another sailor spent their time seeing the beautiful Japanese countryside. It was then that he first met Gordon B. Hinckley.
He had a miracle wherein he was released from the Navy just as the Cuban Crisis hit and Pres. Kennedy froze all releases for one year.
He was called to serve a Mission after his Navy release. While in SLC he saw Elder Hinckley who asked him where he was going on his mission. He told him, “Augusta, Georgia” and Elder Hinckley replied, See me in my office at 3:00 pm”. With that he was off to Japan for 2 ½ years.
Chuck and Sharon Carol Hicks met in SD and were married in 1965 in the LA Temple. He graduated BYU with a BS degree in Soc./Asian Studies and from SDSU with a masters.
He was a Deputy Sheriff, Probation Officer and Corrections Officer for SD County. It was not unusual to have an ex-inmate come up to Chuck and tell him how much he appreciated the kindness and advice. He retired in 1988. He later worked for the Port of Everett, Wa in Security.
Chuck and Sharon had 5 children. Their son Jeffrey died in an 1975 accident, a terrible loss! In 1989 they and the four living children, Rebecca, Brent, Amy and Megan moved to Marysville, Washington. He dearly loved Washington.
His loved hot rods, dune buggies, riding his motorcycle, tigers and cougars. He would always rather make something than purchase it. He was a long time Scouter. He and Sharon served two part-time service missions from home. He faithfully served many callings in the church throughout his life.

"Obedience is the price, faith is the power, love is the motive, the Spirit is the key, and Christ is the reason." The motto of the Japan Fukuoka Mission can be applied not only to missionary work, but to everyday life. -BYU President Bateman
