Duane Killpack | Ronald Eugene Lee | Boyd Francis Smith [Deceased] | Your Occupation: Retired Electrical Engineer | Spouse: Colleen Tara Sanborn | Comments: I have seven kids, 2 boys and 5 girls, 16 grand kids. My testimony of the gospel is strong, steadfast and firm. I have served in many callings in the church, from being in several bishoprics, stake presidencies, stake and ward mission leaderships, ward leaderships and teaching assignments. While here in Illinois for 8 months I am serving as stake assistant clerk. And, while recently in Tucson, Arizona, for 4 months during the winter my wife and I just got released on our return to Illinois as assistant Cub Scout den leaders. I feel bad that I can't remember my companions on my mission except for my 1st companion, Elder Boyd Smith. He must have left a lasting impression on me. All my other companions also left great impressions on me. I wish I could remember their names. It's been so long ago. But, I will remember them again when I meet with them in the Spirit World. Oh, how great our joy will be!
Rodney Sanborn was Steve Larsen's first companion and leader of missionaries in the Nishinomiya Branch, Sept. 1963 to about March 1964. I think his mission ended about the end of 1964. He was from Hawaii and had definite Hawaiian features, beautiful eye brows and lashes, black hair, dark tan complexion. He had very minimum of financial help. I heard from a few missionaries during and right after my mission that he was in the Army and stationed in Korea. Of course, that was back in 1965-1970.
Jim McArthur would remember him, too, since he and I both started out in Nishinomiya and all 4 of us lived in the church building together. Elder Harrell was Jim's companion so he should remember Rodney; and Stephen Rogers took Elder Harrell's place while Rodney was still there.
He was a good worker and great example as a missionary. He was very faithful and quickly gained confidence by investigators. He never complained even though he had a rough time financially. I always respected him and looked up to him as a wonderful model. I would love to be able to contact him.
Thanks for caring, Steve Larsen |
