Couple excerpts from his letter: Ok, my first week here in Samoa has been a lot of things, but mostly amazing. I am in Tutuila, American Samoa. My area is Aua and also a couple other villages.
The other day Elder Hoskins and I (of course mostly E.H.) were talking to this old man wearing nothing but an ea (a lava lava). He was telling us something about an injury or being sick. Elder Hoskins asked him where he was when that happened, but the old guy thought he meant where on his body! So he pulls down his ea and shows us the hole and scar. (Now my mind has one.) From my perspective, I just hear incomprehensible Samoan babble and then there goes the ea. I was like, “Woah! What on earth are they talking about?!” |
