Comments: I finally made it back to Apia in June of 2002. Things hadn't changed that much except for the roads were all paved and the electricity went around the island. The smells were pretty much the same. I mean this in a complementary way. I love the smell of Samoa. I had last been in Apia in May of 1976. My wife and kids thought Apia was beautiful. I only regret that I was not able to get to Savaii.
Just a post script note. Yesterday, Sunday April 27, 2003, my very good friend and former companion Arthur Hannemann attended my ward. It was so good to see him. It had been over ten (10) years. He and his wife along with two of his seven (7) sons were visiting from Calif. He has gotten a job in Hawaii and is looking for a good place to live. Of course, I told him that my area was the best place to live in Hawaii. We were companions serving as assistants to Pres. Patrick Peters from October '75 to Mar. '76. I was then transferred to Falealupo, Savaii where I finished my mission in May of 1976. |
