Presidents: William S. Erekson (1959 - 1962) | John M. Russon (1962 - 1965) | Served: 1961 - 1964 | Language(s) spoken:Missionary German | Areas Served: Basel, Biel, Zurich, Rothrist, Dubendorf, St.Gallen, Oerlikon | Your Occupation: Claims adjuster, retired | Spouse: Pam | Comments: Life has been...interesting... since I joined the Church in 1959. After discharge from the Air Force, September 1961, found me climbing off the airliner in Basel. My first thought: WHAT am I doing here?
Memory fades, but, I remember a few from back then...Elders Gary Bills, Dean Hansen, Dan Lee, Ed Smith; Sister Goss, (later Davey) Sisters Bortoto, Zweifel, Festner, Fahrni, Stockman & Dodd. Also bros. William Young, John Cottrell, Woodhouse, Staheli, Brown, Graham and the Elders Kunz...the tall one and the short one. Bros. Margetts, Pizzuto, Le Suer, Bowman, and Cox and...the "other" brother Crosby...Rulon.
I participated in the baptisms of three sisters, Sis. Meier, Sis. Frei and Sis. Bischoff.
I returned before April Conference 1964. My Stake President said: "Go to conference, my boy, and enjoy yourself." "BUT, Pres., I'm not released!" He just smiled.
I graduated from BYU in 1968, and worked for J.C. Penney's in California, where I met my wife, Pam. Her brother-in-law went home from Priesthood, my first Sunday in the ward, and announced, "I have met the man that Pam will marry!" She said: "Yeah, right!"
I taught photography for a year at BYU.
I served as SS president a couple of times, and SS, Elder's Quorum, and High Priest Group instructor. I stopped counting Stake Missions when I passed 5, (It takes awhile to get it right, I guess.) ward financial clerk 3X, (after the first one I said "NEVER AGAIN!) a stint on the Stake High Council, now, back to teaching the High Priest group, and being the HP Genealogy resource person.
I worked for a newspaper after leaving BYU, but found I could make a better living at claims adjusting, which was good, with 4 little kids to raise.
I retired after 35 years as an adjuster, investigating and documenting some of the saddest incidents you can imagine, and some funny ones, too.
I like to photograph cars that run fast, and things with wings, make knives, and am learning woodcarving. Life is good. |
