George Elbert Magnusson, 63, president of the Torrance California Stake, has been called by the First Presidency as president of the newly created Utah Provo Mission.
He is a member of the Redondo 2nd Ward, Torrance California Stake; former mission president's counselor, stake president's counselor, bishop and counselor, seminary instructor, and stake missionary; served mission to Tahiti, 1946-48; retired high school principal and science teacher; received bachelor's degree from BYU in 1952, did graduate work at Los Angeles State College in 1957 and at University of Southern California in 1959; born in South Gate, Calif, a son of Ivan and Cula Rebecca Haws Magnusson; married Marian Andrew; four children.
