Comments: After I arrived home, the stake president gave Brent (another recently returned missionary) and I a "stake assignment" to teach the young men in the Seminoles(spanish) Branch. The purpose was to expose the young men to missionary influence, since most of them don't have fathers, or brothers that served missions. Brent was fluent in spanish having served in a spanish mission, but I only spoke small words, phrases, and sentences. Comunication wasn't much of a problem since all the youth were bi-langual, but, I still learned much from them, and added to my spanish vocabulary. We were also assigned to plan and attend their Tuesday activities. A few months later, Brent moved to Utah, and I was left with the assignment alone. There were only about 10 young men so they always had a combined quorum, so I taught all the Aaronic Priesthood quorums as a whole. I strived to help them in thier "Duty to God Award", and "For the Strength of Youth". One of thier requirments for the "Duty to God Award" was to participate in a play. Many of them were timid about participating in community events, so I headed a church play that involved the entire spanish youth. It was "David and Goliath." Delegating was a difficult thing to do in the Branch so I ended up directing, casting, scripting, prop-building, and even acted as Goliath. I also took them camping and canoeing many times, we even camped on the church-Deseret Ranch twice. I helped them make a video for the youth conference involving a re-enactment of the first vision, and a skit for the "I AM" theme,, I also shaperoned for the conference. I did this for over a year and then in April 2005, took a job opportunity to work in Liberty Missouri selling roofs. I'm living with friends whom I grew up with in Florida(they moved to MO during my mission), I currently attend a singles ward in Kansis City. I plan to be here atleast till September, and I intend to move to Utah, possibly in the Valley with, or near family that I have there presently. |
