Fall 2001- Trio with Hna. Shumway & Hna. Walker, Kingsgate Spanish Branch (covered 4 stakes), Kirkland Zone.
When you're a missionary, you try to do your very best following the rules, and the guidelines written in the White Handbook. One guideline about living within your means and as equally as possible with your companion, as well as sacrificing...was well practiced with all of my companions, but didn't mean as much until I was in this trio.
Often times missionaries in the US Spanish Speaking missions have a whole different world to deal with then the English speakers. One such issue we dealt with was finding and getting scriptures to members and newly baptized members.
That fall in the Kingsgate Branch, we had several baptisms. We needed to find a way to buy scriptures for our new members and have our daily necessities. Though it would be costly for us, we gave up our grocery money so we could buy scriptures. We truly felt that somehow we would find the daily nourishment we needed so we were not weak and weary day in and day out.
And though we struggled from time to time only eating nutella and crackers for a few days, we were blessed with members, investigators, and non-interested parties giving up food, meals, etc. just enough to get by. It WAS AMAZING!!!
Plus- we had those great Washington wild berries to pick as we walked along the road on our "Pioneer Days".
That companionship trio was the best time I had on the mission because we worked hard together, we sacrificed together, we prayed together, and we learned from one another with patience, and understanding. |
