Served in Marshall Islands from June 1977-January 1979. I was the 5th missionary sent to the Marshall Island; the 3rd of first three permanent full time missionaries in the Marshall Islands. Elders Wardel and Cooper were sent to the islands in January 1977 to assess the viability of full time missionary work. After a short stay, Wardel and Cooper were replaced by Elders Steven Roper and Gabriel Nauahi. Elder Nauahi became sick with hepatitis, and I was sent to replace him.

I was the first LDS missionary to serve longer than 18 months in the Marshall Islands and the first non-native missionary to become fluent in the Marshallese language.
