About April of 1996,
Elder Kerr and I were on our way back to Tartagal one night from Embarcacion. Kerr was the district leader and we were coming back from a zone meeting. It was raining really hard. There were rumors that the road was washed out so the only bus we could take back was one of the old ones that looked like an old school bus; we also had to stand the whole way. Some of you might know that when it rains hard, the road, right before Mosconi, turns into a muddy river. Well the bus stopped when we got to that point, and the driver told all of us that we would have to go back to Embarcacion, but Kerr REALLY wanted to get back to Tartagal that night, so he decided we should trudge through the muddy river of a road to get there. We were about a couple miles or so out from Mosconi, and the muddy river was covering about one mile of that distance. We were also wearing our suits because we were coming from the zone conference. The bus driver thought we were crazy, but he let us off. The muddy river came up to about our knees, but since it was runny quickly the water was washing up to our shirts, and staining them with the brown muck. I tried to keep my bag from getting wet so that my suit coat, scriptures and charlas would stay dry. One good thing about it was it was not very cold that night. It took a long time to trudge through that mess. I had only been in the mission for about 2 months, and I thought my companion was crazy! When we finally got out of the river a man drove up in a pickup and asked us if we wanted to pay him for a ride. We paid him to take us to Mosconi, and then from there we took a cab to Tartagal. We took some sweet pictures of us covered in mud when we got back to the apartment. I will never forget that crazy night and my crazy companion Kerr! What we did as missionaries to make it to our appointments! |
